Let’s be clear from the start : the most
amazing thing about R2 is that it took place at all and for that, the boys from
GLC deserve all the praise it’s possible to heap on them. We shouldn’t have been. On the day, we had
sunshine, blue skies and a nice, soft, but perfectly raceable track. Just as well it was soft going, because the racing was fast and furious – at times, possibly too furious, but that’s for another day. There were plenty of offs and one big one, but thankfully no serious damage done. Once again, it was a delight and a joy to see so many teams, from so many different parts of the country, making the effort to turn up and race. Equally inspiring was the result; sure, a GLC team won it, but only just. Teams GUN and Filthy Fokkers put in a superb effort for 2nd and 3rd and praise should also go to PMT once again for proving that women can ride bikes as well as iron clothes. (Ducks.) The evening party was spectacular for many reasons – not least being the sight of grown and seemingly intelligent men reduced to sodden, gibbering wrecks as they attempted to win the Yard of Ale contest…. Only to be beaten by a callow youth who downed a Yard Of Vodka (honest) in record time, without spilling a drop. Big up to the lad. We also raised a very tidy sum of £558 for Fragile X with the raffle, augmented at the last minute with some great prizes from GLC. So there you have it ; another amazing weekend of racing, of which the abiding memory is this : extraordinary things can be done, when ordinary people set their mind to it. Oh. One last thing – a tip : R3 will be won by Team Grim Up North. You heard it here first, ok ? Round 2 Results
