Details of the charity and events for 2007

04/12/06

Given the interest generated by the FastBikes feature and other publicity, it looks like being a bumper crop of teams taking part next year. So…we’ve tightened up some rules, relaxed others and generally smartened up our act for 2007.

Below some of the important changes, but please, pretty please, go visit www.ndc90racing.co.uk and carefully read the complete list of rules and regs. The site has now been updated for 2007 and will continually be updated as information and news comes in.

If you have questions about any aspect of NDC90 Racing, drop an email to the appropriate committee member.

Here we go then :

1. No more than 20 teams will be allowed to enter and entry is conditional on accepting the sponsorship rules outlined below.

2. All team entries, together with entry fees must be in before 31st January 2007'. A fee of  £20 will be charged to cover the cost of speedos. Entries should be made by contacting Sloppy at either s1opp[at]hotmail[dot]com or here : http://www.sparkyslider.co.uk/forum/...splay.php?f=18

3. We’re re-thinking the rules on engine mods, but it must still be the 90cc Honda engine. The leg-guards stay.(Again, see website for detailed dos and donts when fettling your race bike. There aren’t that many, but they are important.)

4. Each team allowed max 7, min 4,  riders. Complete team, including spannermen and helpers, not to number more than ten. Rule requiring every rider to complete at least 2 sessions  during a race has been abolished.

5. 3 races this year – Sutton Coldfield, near Birmingham,  (a flatgrass track) Slough, a proper full on motocrosse track and in between, another venue currently being vetted. Possibly in Gloucestershire. The races will be held May, July and September, the exact dates tbc. If any race is cancelled due to bad weather or cricket on the telly as much notice will be given to the teams as is possible - please provide contact details with your entry - but the C90 council accepts no liability in respect of late cancellation of races'

6. Sponsorship : every team taking part is required to raise a minimum of £300 sponsorship during the season. This must be produced within a month of the final race. Otherwise your results will be deleted from the championship and you’ll be barred from entering in 2008.

Sorry if this seems a bit harsh, but it’s to emphasise the importance of the charitable side to these events and to deter chancers turning up for fun and not contributing.

It also means that,  say we have 15 teams racing at each round, we can guarantee a basic £4,500 to the charity, never mind all the raffle money, cash tins and other ways people find to raise cash.

We know from experience that many sponsors don’t pay up until the season is over, hence the month’s grace after the final round.

However, if the money isn't produced by then, this rule will be strictly enforced.

7.The charity we’re supporting next year is The FragileX Foundation, a small but worthy support group for those  suffering from a form of autism. (Many of whom are children.) Full details of what it is and what they do are on the website. All dealings with them will be handled by me, Archie. All monies must go through the NDC90 charity account with First Direct, unless directly sent to the charity for company tax purposes, in which case I must be told, on pain of death. (This is because unless there is some central record kept on funds raised, it is impossible to know how much all your hard work has raised, with all the glory that goes with it. And you want glory, right ? So, please, keep ME informed.)

8. Before the start of the R1 race, a series of mini agility tests, loosely akin to trials riding, will decide the position of bikes on the grid and the time penalty before they may start. Thereafter at following rounds, the finishing order of the previous round will be reversed and used to decide grid places – so the first shall be last, at least at the beginning of the race, at intervals to be decided by the Race Director only.

9. When the champagne cork pops, all arguing about the race result stops. After that, the Race Director will not listen to any more whinges about bad riding, bikes not up to standard or any other such crap. Result WILL stand once that champers is flowing.

10. Bear in mind, NDC90 racing’s only two aims are to have fun and raise money. We race hard and fair, but even on a 5bhp scoot, injuries can occur. Remember, we all have wives and kids to look after & mortgages to pay on the Monday.

11. The Evening Party. This will be in a cheapish hotel, with a private room and half decent buffet facilites, as near as possible to the racetrack and selected by the organisers.

It will be up to each team to book their rooms.

It’s always a good laugh, there’ll be a raffle of some suprisingly good stuff and it’s a great way to get to know your fellow racers and get completely shitfaced.

12. You will find all this in more detail at our web site, www.ndc90racing.co.uk. Along with dates, venues, maps to venues, timings, full rules and so on. Visit it regularly next year, to find out where and when you need to be on raceday. I will be posting reminders here, in the run-up to each round, but it is the responsibility of each team manager to check the site and arrive on time at each venue.

13. Finally….In the last two seasons, we have raised over £16,000 for The Brittle Bone Association and Asthma UK. With the increased number of teams racing in 2007, I expect this to increase radically.

Or you’ll all get a good kicking.
