And come they did, to R1 of the NDC90 Endurance Racing Championship, on May 27th the year of our Lord, 2007. They came in lorries, horse-boxes, transits and cars. They brought BBQs, braziers, generators and grannies, kids, dogs, hot-dogs - and bikes. Oh, the bikes. 14 of them, most barely recognisable as Honda C90s. Many of them works of art, almost all of them working for the full 4 hours. As for the racing, well….it was the fastest, funniest and most furious yet. Needless to say, the GLC teams dominated the top three places, but they didn’t have it all their own way by any means. And as for the new riders….. There were those who’d only just passed their CBT, those who’d never ridden anything like this before, even a top bloke who I am reliably informed was a septuagenarian. Well done, the lot of you. The rain more or less held off for us and although TPK and ARD were disqualified for rule infringement, a very good day was had by all. Which makes it a shame that the evening do was so poorly attended. Despite a decent hotel and a superb private room, it was the usual suspects, plus one or two new faces. One or two, out of seven new teams …?? This was, sadly, reflected by the lowest raffle money raised in the three years we’ve been doing this thing. Fragile X deserves better and hopefully will do at R2. A small bunch of people put in an awful lot of hard work to get these rounds organised and it will be a real shame if the spirit of NDC90 Racing gets lost along the way.
